Townsbook is a blog about the physical, economic and social decline of our town centres in the UK, and forms part of my PHD into my research of the effects of internet retails sales.

Towns centres in the UK are showing vacancy rates of of 30%, and the futures does not look good.

The governments needs to take action, but do they really understand the problem ?

My research to date shows that the rise of multiple retailing was the start of the decline, followed by the the rise of the food store, and the combination of the two have been lethal.

However, the prevalence of the the internet has been the biggest force in the decline.
